I'm about to post a lot of pictures that are way overdue.
Husband and I standing in front of our house just before we went to closing.
The day after we closed on our brand-spanking new house, was our planned First Anniversary Surprise Trip! Husband planned an awesome trip that he managed to keep secret from me, and me alone. He told EVERYONE else! It was great.
This is how we slept in our home the first night. We also taped
bath towels up on the windows because it was really creepy.
On the way to the surprise, we gave me the first present- the present that told me the first big surprise. He said I couldn't have it until we hit I-75 in Georgia though. I couldn't find my picture of it, but he gave me Train's brand of wine- the wine they created for their new album California 37. This alone told me we were going to a Train concert!
Train, singing their arguably most famous song, Drops of Jupiter.
Then we went to Chateau Elan, which is where there is an annual grape stomp- surely you recall this video.
I begged him to pose like this. Though he was reluctant, he knew he
didn't have a choice. Luckily, I never promised not to show anyone.
Chateau Elan is seriously beautiful though.
Oh, you know, just side-kicking his way through the vineyards.
When we arrived back home on the date of our actual anniversary, this happened:
Husband shut his finger in the car door while we unpacked our stuff. I spent
a fair amount of time cleaning blood off the new garage, while he was nearly sick from
the pain and the blood. I threatened him to not bleed on the new carpet, and he
obliged. After about two months, the nail fell off and is growing back nicely now.
Up next, we attempted to survive a few days at work, then my mom came to town to help us move in/attend Husband's brother's wedding to wonderful woman.
Here we are on the first two most-Indian nights ever in my existence.
I got three henna tattoos at the Gaye Holud!
Disclaimer: A five-year-old painted my nails.
Obviously this third one is the best.
The next day was the beautiful wedding of these two people:
Beautiful.
After the wedding festivities were complete, we headed back to Huntsville to get to work on moving in/painting Chateau Perrin.
I took two days off from work to paint two walls- the first one
is in the dining room. This wasn't the color I wanted.. In fact I fought
tooth-and-nail to get the color I wanted but this was the color closest to
the two colors we both liked. Now, I love it. It's the first thing I want to show
people when they enter our house for the first time.
And this second one in the living room. Fun fact: to pick this color,
we picked up every single red paint chip we could find, laid them all
on the couch and discarded the ones that definitely did not match the couch.
And now we can never get a new couch.
My mom was a great helper. She allowed me to be overbearing
and crazy so the painting would be done the way I wanted it do be done. Since
she's not a fan of heights, she did a large portion of the lower-level work and
I did the higher parts that required a ladder.
We even put some detail work into it. Here you can see, vaguely, that there is a swirl pattern painted over the wall. It's subtle and wonderfully so.
How amazing does this color look against the bright white baseboards, window
sill and blinds? I love it.
The weekend following the wedding and the painting, Husband and I decided to have the family over for a small cook-out/ grill-opening party/ Grandma's birthday party trifecta of events.
The women-folk, clockwise from left: Husband's sister, his mother,
my mother, and Husband's Grandmother. A bunch of women anyone
would be lucky to know.
The men decided to be ultra-manly and remain outside with
the grill and beer until it was time to feast.
And feast, we did.
I don't have a picture on-hand of the awesome cake that Sarah made, but trust me.. It was awesome.
After all the excitement of the month, we decided to lay low and blend in for a while.
Do you see Husband?
Fantastic.
The last weekend in September we visited this wonderful woman:
The Lord called Memaw home in the middle of October. She
was a great woman who was loved by all, including her three
wonderful children and their families.
The weekend before Husband's birthday in October was spent in Rutledge, Tennessee, celebrating the life of Memaw with friends and family from up and down the US.
Husband and I requested the honor of Sarah to take some First Anniversary photos for us. We were pleased. Puppy could have tried harder though.
We are going to have to work on her picture-posing abilities, because we have
about 400+ other pictures where she is not cooperating.
Then it was time for Husband's birthday! We all thought he was turning 25, but the Great American Cookie Company 1-up'd us and wrote "Happy 20th Birthday" on it instead.
Not my favorite picture of either of us, but it's what I have on hand.
Then October 24th finally rolled around and it was time for our long-awaited trip to New York with Husband's family for his dad's United States Military Academy 1977 graduating class reunion.
My husband is so thug. Truly, thug life chose him.
Cheesin'
In line to get one the ferry to the Statue of Liberty.
Cool-cat Grandma.
The people behind us look seriously unfriendly.
Token artsy shot.
The Perrin weirdos in front of Lady Liberty's base. :)
Dark photo, but Sarah, Diana and I copying Lady's permanent pose.
Husband got tired, so he made his crippled wife carry him.
He wasn't in our group, but I sort of wish he was.
Battery Park
Signs don't lie.
I couldn't believe how much Tom still looks like his photo from '77 on his
name tag. Amazing. The only real difference was the salt-n-pepper on top.
Lots and lots (and lots) of goose poo in this field.
Times Square and an intrigued Husband.
So that was definitely the quick-and-dirty version of the New York trip. I have about a million more photos, but decided not to linger too much.
Halloween:
At work, we dressed up as doctors.
But Husband and I dressed up as each other for the evening. It would
have been great, except that no one noticed that we were each other,
and instead people thought we were dressing in drag. I seriously don't think he
had enough eyeliner on to be considered 'drag'gy.
Next time we'll do November and December of 2012, and start in on 2013. Stay tuned for Thanksgiving in paradise (Disney World), Christmas parties galore, my first Christmas in Huntsville, New Years Eve and our current events.
